Level 2, Activity 2-5

Pedal to the Metal

Project Examples –

  1. Teens start a club to clean up the environment in their community and improve recycling rates.

  2. Students start a literacy center in their school or community center to provide tutoring for adults and children who need help with reading.

  3. Youth start a state-wide anti-hunger drive that donates thousands of pounds of fresh and canned food to community food pantries.

  4. Youth organize a "Suitcases for Kids" chapter to collect suitcases and other items needed for youth in foster care.

  5. Youth start an international pen pal program with their local sister city program, setting up a cyber-chess club and other activities to help youth get to know each other from across the globe.

  6. Students get involved in disaster relief and work with their American Red Cross to deliver aid and assist with long-term recovery projects.

  7. Youth help jazz up a thrift store created by a local charity to support its work helping the homeless. They improve the way the store looks, which makes people buy more stuff. Then they go out and solicit more donations so the store has more items to sell and can bring in more money. They help the store management improve marketing, customer service and merchandise display at the store, and it returns more money to the charity annually.
